It is a herbaceous perennial which grows annual pseudostems (false stems made of the rolled bases of leaves) about one meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades. Known as the true ginger used as a spice. May be grown in containers or ground, hardy zone 9-12. Likes sun to lt shade and warmth, moderately moist. Harvest in 4-6 months, has 1 week shelf life. Plants may go dormant during winter.
